This special feature serves as a thrilling companion to this year’s successful The Sound of Pride, ensuring a vibrant soundtrack for every occasion.

The spooky season truly belongs to Jackie Beat. Her fingerprints are all over this year’s most anticipated Halloween content, starting with her commanding presence in the Huluween Dragstravaganza Variety Special. Not only did she co-star in this spectacular event, but she also lent her sharp wit and creative vision as a co-writer. The special boasts an incredible ensemble cast of drag superstars, featuring the undeniable talents of Monét X Change, Ginger Minj, Lady Bunny, Selene Luna, Landon Cider, Jujube, Manila Luzon, Mo Heart, and the charismatic Mario Diaz. This star-studded variety show, a must-watch for any Halloween enthusiast, showcases the vibrant intersection of drag, comedy, and horror, offering a unique blend of scares and laughs perfectly suited for the season.

Beyond Huluween, Jackie Beat further cemented her reign over October with the second episode of her highly acclaimed OUTtv series, Jackie Beat’s Dr. Jackie: Unlicensed Psychotherapist. This innovative and hilarious show featured a stellar lineup of guest appearances, including drag royalty like Alaska Thunderf-ck, Roz Hernandez, Drew Droege, Sam Pancake, and a truly special, unmissable cameo from the undisputed Queen of Halloween herself, Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson. The 6-part series, which premiered on OUTtv on September 19th, promised a darkly comedic journey into the human psyche, concluding perfectly on Halloween night. While eagerly awaiting the series finale and diving into her captivating projects, fans can also explore Jackie Beat’s curated selections for The Sound Of Halloween, promising a playlist as unconventional and iconic as the drag legend herself. Her deep involvement in both these high-profile projects underscores her status as a Halloween powerhouse, bringing her unique brand of humor and fright to audiences everywhere.

Jackie Beat’s Handpicked Halloween Playlist Essentials

Known for her sharp wit and unparalleled stage presence, Jackie Beat brings her unique taste to our Halloween playlist. Her selections are a testament to her eclectic sensibilities, spanning various genres and moods that perfectly encapsulate the multifaceted spirit of the spooky season. These aren’t just typical monster mash-ups; they are carefully chosen tracks that evoke a specific kind of chilling atmosphere, proving that fright can come in many forms, from orchestral grandeur to synth-pop melancholy.

Ennio Morricone, “Magic & Ecstasy” (From the film Exorcist 2: The Heretic)

Jackie Beat’s first pick takes us into the unsettling world of film scores, highlighting the genius of the late, great Ennio Morricone. His track “Magic & Ecstasy” from Exorcist 2: The Heretic is a profound choice, steering away from typical jump-scare anthems and delving into atmospheric, psychological horror. Morricone, a master of evocative soundscapes, creates a piece that is both hauntingly beautiful and deeply disturbing, perfectly capturing the film’s unsettling spiritual turmoil. This instrumental track builds tension with its ethereal vocals and dramatic orchestral swells, making it ideal for setting a sophisticated yet terrifying mood for any Halloween gathering. It reminds listeners that true horror often lies in the unseen and the unheard, a creeping dread rather than an overt shock. The editor’s note regarding the absence of Morricone’s original on streaming platforms serves as a poignant reminder of the value of physical media, encouraging enthusiasts to seek out the authentic, immersive experience that only a full film score can provide.

Bloodrock, “D.O.A”

Next on Jackie’s list is the hard-hitting classic, “D.O.A” by Bloodrock. This track is a powerful journey into a narrative of intense suffering and near-death experience, perfectly aligning with the darker, more visceral side of Halloween. Released in 1970, this proto-metal anthem stands out with its dramatic spoken-word intro detailing a plane crash and its aftermath, quickly transitioning into a heavy, driving rock track. The urgency in the vocals and the relentless instrumentation create an overwhelming sense of dread and helplessness, making it an exceptionally potent choice for a Halloween soundtrack. It’s not just a song; it’s a sonic horror story, an auditory experience that conjures images of chaotic terror and the chilling proximity of death. Jackie’s inclusion of “D.O.A” showcases her appreciation for tracks that combine musical prowess with genuinely unsettling lyrical content, proving that Halloween soundtracks can be both rock-infused and deeply disturbing.

Flock of Seagulls, “Nightmares”

Bringing a touch of 80s synth-laden gloom to the playlist is Flock of Seagulls with their track “Nightmares.” While famously known for their new wave hits and distinctive hairstyles, this song reveals a darker, more atmospheric side to the band, making it a surprisingly fitting choice for Halloween. “Nightmares” crafts a moody, ethereal soundscape with its characteristic synthesizers and reverb-soaked vocals, evoking a sense of unease and psychological tension rather than outright horror. It’s the kind of track that conjures images of misty, moonlit nights, shadowy figures, and the creeping paranoia of a mind disturbed. Jackie Beat’s selection demonstrates an understanding that Halloween isn’t just about gore and jump scares; it’s also about the chilling beauty of the mysterious and the melancholic. This track offers a more introspective, yet equally spooky, addition to any Halloween playlist, proving that the fright factor can be subtle, atmospheric, and utterly captivating.

HollywoodLife: Jackie, as a drag icon and connoisseur of all things fabulous and frightful, what is your most prominent Halloween memory? When someone says “Halloween,” what’s the first thing that jumps into your mind from your past?

Jackie Beat: Oh, Halloween is a treasure trove of memories, especially growing up. But the one that always resurfaces is dressing up as Shelley Winters from The Poseidon Adventure for the legendary West Hollywood Halloween Carnival. It wasn’t just a costume; it was a tribute to one of my favorite disaster movies, and honestly, it was a perfectly chaotic choice for my early drag endeavors because Shelley’s character is just pure, beautiful mess! I went all out – a life preserver around my neck, a “HAPPY NEW YEAR” hat precariously perched on my head, and, to truly embody the character’s post-disaster chic, I walked around with only one shoe! The West Hollywood Carnival is an experience in itself, a vibrant spectacle where everyone brings their A-game, and my Shelley Winters was definitely a memorable, albeit drenched and dishevelled, highlight of that particular spooky night. It perfectly encapsulates my approach to drag and comedy – finding the humor and spectacle in unexpected places.

HollywoodLife: Given your keen eye for pop culture and trends, what do you predict will be the most popular Halloween costume this year? And, more importantly, what SHOULD be, in your iconic opinion?

Jackie Beat: Well, with recent global events, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a proliferation of Queen Elizabeth costumes. It’s topical, historical, and offers a certain regal gravitas. However, if people are going to do it, I desperately hope they take a page from my book and at least make her a zombie! A zombie queen adds that much-needed ghoulish twist to an otherwise stately figure. But, if you’re asking what *should* be the costume of the year, in my humble and highly opinionated estimation, everyone should absolutely go as Jennifer Coolidge’s character on The White Lotus! Her unique blend of vulnerability, absurdity, and unforgettable lines makes her a goldmine for Halloween. Imagine a sea of people channeling her specific brand of eccentric charm – it would be an absolute scream. It’s a character that allows for so much comedic interpretation and recognition, perfect for a night of playful dress-up.

HollywoodLife: Beyond your incredible performance and writing schedule, do you have any particular October or Halloween traditions that you cherish, perhaps a ritual to mark the spooky season?

Jackie Beat: I hate to admit it, but for many of us in the drag world, Halloween is affectionately known as ‘amateur night.’ We dress up, put on makeup, and transform all year round, so the concept of it being a special occasion for costumes can sometimes feel a bit… basic. However, let me be clear: I absolutely adore Halloween! If I’m not scheduled to perform or involved in some fabulous fright-night event, my ideal tradition involves staying cozy at home. I love to curl up and indulge in some of my absolute favorite classic horror films. We’re talking about the originals – the visceral terror of 1976’s Carrie, the psychological suspense of Hitchcock’s Psycho, or the groundbreaking, relentless dread of George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead. These are cinematic masterpieces that truly understand how to build suspense and deliver genuine chills, far beyond simple jump scares. And, of course, no horror movie marathon is complete without ample sustenance. So, I’ll be scarfing down all the Halloween candy I dutifully bought for the trick-or-treaters who, thankfully, never seem to show up at my door. It’s a win-win – classic horror, delicious candy, and a peaceful, spooky night in.

HollywoodLife: Imagine you’re given an unlimited budget and complete creative freedom. What horror movie would you star in? Would you choose to remake a classic, or would you unleash an entirely original concept on the world?

Jackie Beat: That’s a fantastic question, and the possibilities are truly horrifying! However, I honestly don’t believe in remaking movies, especially if they are classics that were done right the first time. There’s a sacredness to cinematic masterpieces that should be respected. So, rather than tread on hallowed ground, I would absolutely spend that hefty budget on an entirely original idea. Something truly terrifying, mind-bending, and utterly unique. My concept? Brace yourselves: Lady Bunny Out of Drag, presented in glorious HD and terrifying 3-D! Imagine the pure, unadulterated horror, the unfiltered reality, magnified for maximum impact. It would be a cinematic event that challenges the very boundaries of fear, a raw, unflinching look that no audience could ever truly prepare for. The psychological scarring would be immense, and it would definitely stand as the most terrifying film ever made. You’re welcome, Hollywood.

HollywoodLife: With all your incredible projects and Halloween festivities, what’s on tap for you for the remainder of October and as we head into the rest of the year? What can fans look forward to from the inimitable Jackie Beat?

Jackie Beat: Oh, it’s a whirlwind, darling! The Huluween Dragstravaganza variety special, which I had the pleasure of co-starring in and co-writing, began streaming on Hulu on October 1st and will be available to delight and fright audiences all month long. It’s a grand spectacle that brings together incredible talent for a truly unique Halloween experience, packed with laughs, glamour, and a touch of the macabre. And then there’s my brand-new comedy series, “Dr. Jackie: Unlicensed Psychotherapist,” which is currently airing on OUTtv. This show is a wild ride, delving into the hilarious and often absurd world of therapy, but with my signature, unfiltered twist. Trust me, the concept of Jackie Beat giving people advice is about as scary as it gets in real life! It’s an exercise in controlled chaos and unconventional wisdom that audiences won’t want to miss. I’m thrilled for everyone to see these projects and experience the various shades of “scary” that only I can deliver.
