“Gud Vibrations”

“Gud Vibrations” holds a special place in my heart and career. This track, which is my most popular song to date, was a collaborative effort with some of my closest friends, Slander. More than just a song, it became a pivotal moment that truly jumpstarted both our careers, ultimately lending its name to our very own record label. When I play “Gud Vibrations” during my live shows, it’s always an incredibly unique and heartfelt experience. I typically save it for the latter part of my set, creating a joyful atmosphere where I encourage everyone in the crowd to embrace their loved ones, share a hug, and simply revel in the present moment as fully as possible. The energy for this track is always off the charts, embodying pure, unadulterated good vibes and connecting everyone through the power of music, making it a cornerstone of both my and Slander’s discographies and a highlight for festival-goers worldwide.

“Street”

During my initial years after moving to Los Angeles, I was completely immersed in the hustle – constantly writing and refining new music every single day. It was a period of intense dedication and creative exploration, pushing the boundaries of my sound. In an unexpected turn of events, the legendary Skrillex somehow got his hands on “Street” even before its official release. He then featured it prominently in his iconic Ultra main stage performance in 2014. What made this moment truly remarkable was that it was the only track he played that no one in the audience recognized. The sheer mystery and raw power of the song generated an immense buzz and hype, propelling it to quickly blow up across the electronic music scene. This track proved instrumental in giving my career the significant kickstart it needed, firmly establishing my presence. “Street” unapologetically showcases the heavier, more aggressive side of NGHTMRE’s sound, characterized by its impactful drops and robust basslines that resonate deeply with fans of dubstep and bass music, demonstrating my early mastery of potent, festival-ready anthems.

“Fear & Love”

My artistic inclinations have always leaned heavily towards melodic music. Even when crafting my most intense and heavy tracks, I consciously strive to integrate a strong melodic element, believing it adds a crucial layer of musical integrity and emotional depth. “Fear” and “Love” exemplify this philosophy perfectly. These are two distinct songs that remarkably stem from the exact same fundamental chord progression idea. However, they diverge dramatically in their execution: “Fear” plunges into an intensely dark and heavy soundscape, characterized by aggressive synths and driving rhythms, evoking tension and power, while “Love” blossoms into something exquisitely beautiful and melodic, evoking feelings of serenity and euphoria. Together, these two tracks serve as a powerful representation of my core style, demonstrating my ability to navigate the full spectrum of emotions and sonic textures, from bone-rattling bass to soaring, ethereal harmonies, all while maintaining a consistent artistic voice. This duality is a hallmark of my sound, capturing the complex interplay of human emotions within electronic music.

“Lost My Mind (NGHTMRE Remix)”

Remixing tracks is an art form I deeply enjoy, and I’ve had the pleasure of working on countless reinterpretations. However, this particular remix I did for my good friends Dillon Francis and Alison Wonderland, “Lost My Mind,” consistently delivers an absolutely electrifying experience during my live performances every single time. What truly makes this remix stand out, and why it maintains such high energy even during its slower breakdown sections, are the distinctive plucky melodic chords I crafted. These chords create a dynamic contrast and keep the audience engaged, building anticipation before the next drop. I’m genuinely proud of how this one turned out, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see both Alison and Dillon incorporate my remix into their own sets, a true testament to its impact and versatility within the EDM community. It showcases my ability to take an existing framework and infuse it with my signature bass-heavy, melodic touch, making it uniquely NGHTMRE and a crowd favorite.

“Feelin’ Gud”

Following the immense success of “Gud Vibrations,” “Feelin’ Gud” was a track I developed with Slander that I instinctively knew would resonate deeply with our audience. The core idea for this song had been brewing in my mind for many years before I finally dedicated the time to fully realize it in the studio. It genuinely felt like the perfect, natural progression and follow-up to “Gud Vibrations,” and our dedicated fanbase reacted to it with incredible enthusiasm and support. Since its release, “Feelin’ Gud” has steadily gained significant traction, becoming another staple in our sets and in the wider electronic music landscape, loved for its infectious energy and uplifting atmosphere. A particularly rewarding aspect of this track was having Matthew Santos lend his incredible vocals to the record. His voice holds a special significance for me, as he’s also the vocalist on one of my all-time favorite songs, “Lupe Fiasco – Superstar.” His contribution added an undeniable layer of depth and emotion, elevating “Feelin’ Gud” to an even higher level of artistry and connecting it to a legacy of powerful vocal performances, making it a truly memorable collaboration.

“Redlight VIP”

Growing up in North Carolina, my musical diet was heavily seasoned with hip-hop. Among the many artists I admired, A$AP Ferg always stood out as one of my absolute favorites. To this day, I’m still somewhat in awe and mind-blown that I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with him on “Redlight VIP.” This track is another undeniable crowd-igniter that consistently goes absolutely OFF during my live performances, bringing an unparalleled level of energy to the dance floor. I believe that successfully blending the distinct sounds of hip-hop and EDM in a tasteful and authentic manner is a significant challenge for any producer. Looking back, I genuinely feel that “Redlight VIP” represents my finest work in achieving that delicate balance, creating a powerful fusion that respects both genres while pushing their boundaries. It’s a testament to how my diverse musical upbringing informs my electronic productions, resulting in something truly unique and impactful, bridging the gap between two powerful musical worlds.

“The One”

To provide a harmonious balance to the heavier, more aggressive tracks on my new album, DRMVRSE, “The One” emerges as a beautifully melodic and deeply personal song. I had the distinct pleasure of writing this track with my brother, Klaxx (aka AJ). Our connection runs deep, both personally and musically, as we both attended Icon Collective, a renowned music production school in Los Angeles that played a significant role in shaping our careers. We’ve collaborated on several different tracks recently, but “The One” truly stands out. It possesses a powerful emotional resonance that hits hard, yet simultaneously maintains an uplifting and inherently happy vibe. The vocal performance on this track is particularly captivating, lending a distinct sense of nostalgia and euphoria that perfectly integrates into the overall narrative of DRMVRSE and my broader discography. This collaboration with Klaxx highlights the familial bond and shared musical journey that continues to inspire and evolve my sound, creating a track that resonates with both power and heartfelt emotion. Huge shoutout to AJ, who is incredibly talented as Klaxx!

NGHTMRE’s journey through these seven defining tracks illuminates his evolution as an artist and his unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of electronic music. From the communal joy of “Gud Vibrations” to the raw power of “Street,” the emotional duality of “Fear & Love,” the innovative flair of his “Lost My Mind” remix, the collaborative spirit of “Feelin’ Gud,” the genre-fusion mastery of “Redlight VIP,” and the heartfelt melodic brilliance of “The One,” each song contributes to the rich tapestry of his genre-bending sound. His album, DRMVRSE, stands as a culmination of this artistic exploration, inviting listeners into a multifaceted sonic universe.
